1.1 km · İskinit Castle is a castle located in Dereköy village of Gökçeada district of Çanakkale province, Turkey. It is also known by the name Paleokastro. It is also known among the public by names such as Dereköy, Şeytan, Korsan, Eskikale castle. Pîrî Reis mentions İskinit Castle in his work Kitâb-ı Bahriye, and Evliya Çelebi mentions it in the parts of his work Seyahatname related to İmroz. It is not known exactly when the castle was built and until when it was used. İskinit Castle was built on a rocky hill with an altitude of 450 meters, approximately 7 kilometers south of Dereköy. İskinit Castle is on a hill dominating the region. İskinit Castle was built from rubble stones using the dry wall technique. There is a ruined chapel inside the castle. There is a necropolis area in the southern part of İskinit Castle. There is a postern (tunnel, passage) in the western part of the castle. There are numerous building remains inside the castle, which are in ruins and destroyed today. Likewise, there are numerous building remains around the castle. It is thought that a large population lived inside the castle during the Late Byzantine Period. There are five ruined mill remains on the road on the western side of İskinit Castle. İskinit Castle is in a ruined and dilapidated state today. Some wall remains and two towers of İskinit Castle are still standing.
