Temple of Athena
The Temple of Athena, located in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale, is situated on the acropolis of the ancient city of Assos, at the highest point of the city. Built between 540 and 530 BC, this Doric temple is the only example of Archaic period Doric architecture in Anatolia and is notable for blending Doric architecture with Ionic elements. Dedicated to Athena, the city's protector goddess, the temple has been partially restored and can be visited today. The Acropolis (44 m), Theatre (267 m), and Assos (284 m) are within walking distance.
