About Enez Castle
Enez Castle is a historic site located in the Enez district of Edirne province. Dating back to the Byzantine period, the castle underwent a major restoration in the 6th century during the reign of Emperor Justinian. After its conquest by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1456, it became part of the Ottoman Empire. The castle complex includes the Fatih Mosque (formerly the Hagia Sophia Church) and a small chapel with mosaic floors.
