Historic Sites in Akhisar

Thyateira was the name of an ancient Greek city in Asia Minor, now the modern Turkish city of Akhisar, Manisa Province. The name is probably Lydian. It lies in the far west of Turkey, southwest of Istanbul and east-northeast of Athens.

Or Yehuda Agriculture School is a former school established by Jews in 1905 in the Akhisar district of Manisa, Turkey, providing education in the field of agriculture. It was operated by an agricultural colony within the borders of the Kayalıoğlu neighborhood in Akhisar, with the support of the Alliance Israélite Universelle and the Jewish Colonization Association. The language of instruction at the school was French, with the regular education duration set at 3 years and specialization training durations set at 4 and 5 years.

Hastane Höyüğü is a multi-layered archaeological settlement located in the Akhisar district of Manisa, within the spread area of the ancient city of Thiatira. The mound is known by this name due to the Akhisar State Hospital, which was built on it and is now demolished. Archaeological artifacts found in the mound have determined that the settlement continued from the late phases of the Late Neolithic Age through the Late Chalcolithic, Bronze Ages, Lydian, Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods.

Dombaycıoğlu Han is an Ottoman-era commercial structure located in the Akhisar district of Manisa province. It was built in 1823 by Dombaycıoğlu Mehmet Ağa, registered in 1963, and taken under protection as a cultural asset in 1980. The han, which continued to be used by renting out its rooms starting from 1995, was partially demolished due to neglect over time, but was restored through the initiatives of the Akhisar Commodity Exchange. Approximately 2 million TL was spent for the restoration, and today the han houses seven rooms where exchange members can hold meetings and nine shops.

Akhisar Halkevi Binası is a historic site located in Akhisar, Manisa. It was built in the 20th century during the Republican period and served as a public building and school. The building was once used as the Ali Şefik Middle School and a guesthouse for teachers, and after restoration, it was opened as the Akhisar Museum in 2012. It is within walking distance of Dombaycıoğlu Hanı (189 m), Tepemezarı (596 m), and Sasa Bey Hamamı (681 m).

Thiatira, located in Akhisar, Manisa, is an ancient Greek city built upon the modern city of Akhisar. It has a history dating back to the Early Bronze Age and was refounded in 290 BC during the Hellenistic era by Seleucus I Nicator. Thiatira is also known as one of the seven churches mentioned in the biblical Book of Revelation. The ancient city was an important trade and industrial center with thriving crafts such as weaving and purple dye production. Tepemezarı (96 m), Hastane Höyüğü (493 m), and Dombaycıoğlu Hanı (532 m) are within walking distance.
