The Manisa Hafsa Sultan Şifahanesi was added in 1539 to the Sultan Mosque and Complex, which Ayşe Hafsa Sultan, mother of Suleiman the Magnificent, began constructing in 1522. The building served as a hospital for approximately 500 years and is now used as a Medical History Museum within Manisa Celal Bayar University. The şifahane is known as the place where Mesir Paste was first prepared and distributed, and it was an important center of Ottoman medicine.
