Gemiler
2.6 km · Gemiler Island, located off the coast of Fethiye, is a historic site home to numerous church ruins built between the 4th and 6th centuries AD. The island's traditional Turkish name, Gemiler Adası, means "Island of Boats," which may refer to St. Nicholas's role as the patron saint of sailors. Archaeologists believe the island may have been the location of St. Nicholas's original tomb. The island also contains around forty other ecclesiastical buildings and over fifty Christian tombs. Visitors are charged an entrance fee to explore the island's historical ruins.
