Bitlis Kalesi
Bitlis Castle is located in the city center of Bitlis, on a steep rock formation where two streams converge. It is believed to have been built in 312 BC by Badlis, one of Alexander the Great's commanders, and the city is said to have taken its name from him. The castle walls are 2800 meters long, 56 meters high, and 7 meters wide. Although sources indicate that it once contained structures such as a khan palace, 300 houses, an inn, a mosque, and its minaret, today only the castle ruins remain. The castle is currently closed to visitors due to archaeological excavations, but its impressive fortifications can be admired from the outside.
