Zile Kalesi
Zile Castle, this castle is located on a mound in the center of Zile District and dominates the Zile Plain. When the interior of the castle was investigated, architectural pieces and inscriptions from the Roman and Byzantine periods were found in the vicinity. Based on these artifacts, it is thought that this castle was built in the 1st century AD. Although it is not definitively known when and by whom the castle, which has an acropolis feature, was founded, the differences in height in the rampart walls, the shapes of the towers, and the variety in the wall masonry indicate that the structure was used for a long time with repairs and additions in different periods. It is rumored that a person named Mithridates, King of Colchis, used this place as a castle in the past, and at the same time, passages ran under it and it was also used for military purposes. The castle is made of cut and rubble stone, and its walls are reinforced with various round bastions.
