Amorium
32.0 km · Amorium Ancient City, located in the Emirdağ district of Afyonkarahisar, is a significant archaeological site with traces of approximately 4000 years of continuous settlement, from the Hittites to the Ottomans. The city was founded in the Hellenistic period, flourished during the Byzantine Empire, and declined after the Arab sack of 838. Amorium was one of the most important urban and military centers of the Byzantine Empire in Anatolia and was the birthplace of the Byzantine Phrygian Dynasty. Excavations have unearthed various findings, including a basilica, a Byzantine bathhouse, grape pressing pools, granaries, and coins from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods.
