It was built in 1896 or 1897 by Sancakbeyi Cemil Pasha, with funding from the Italian Vitalis Gaptiorele. Constructed from Ayvalık cut stone, the tower is 20 meters high and has five floors. The Clock Tower was built during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II and bears his tughra. Its construction began in 1770, based on the suggestion of Baron De Tott, and it stands as the first and largest bastion at the narrowest point of the strait. Expanded during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz and modernized in 1892, the bastion served as the headquarters for the 4th Heavy Artillery Regiment during the Gallipoli Campaign. Today, it functions as a museum, displaying war artifacts and historical information. It is 631 meters from Kilitbahir ferry stop.
