Çanakkale Boğazı

#1 of 441 places in Çanakkale

The Çanakkale Strait, also known historically as the Dardanelles, is a significant waterway connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara and separating the continents of Asia and Europe. It is approximately 62-63 km long, with its narrowest point being about 1450 meters where the Çimenlik and Kilitbahir castles meet. The strait features a two-way current: a less saline surface current flowing from the Black Sea towards the Aegean, and a highly saline undercurrent flowing from the Aegean towards the Black Sea. It is within walking distance of Çanakkale ferry stop (654 m) and Saat Kulesi (787 m).
