Romanus Gate
922 m · The Romanus Gate in Fatih, İstanbul, is a significant part of the historic Walls of Constantinople, dating back to the Byzantine era. Also known as Cannon Gate (Topkapı), it gained its modern name from the Ottoman cannons placed opposite it during the final siege in 1453. It is believed that Constantine XI Palaiologos, the last Byzantine emperor, was killed here on May 29, 1453. The site is within walking distance of the Walls of Istanbul (11 m) and the Panorama 1453 History Museum (677 m), with the Pazartekke tram stop (391 m) nearby.
