About The Capito Thermae
Capito Hamamları is a historic Roman bath complex located in the Balat neighborhood of Didim, Aydın. It was built in the mid-1st century AD by Cnaeus Vergilius Capito, a high-ranking Roman from Miletus who served as the governor of the Asian province during the reign of Emperor Claudius (41-54 AD). This bath complex is notable as one of the first thermal gymnasium complexes with an axially symmetrical plan. Within walking distance of Capito Hamamları are other historical sites such as Miletus (273 m), İlyas Bey Mosque (460 m), and Nymphaeum (125 m).
