1Miletus

Miletus was an influential ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in present day Turkey. Renowned in antiquity for its wealth, maritime power, and extensive network of colonies, Miletus was a major center of trade, culture, and innovation from the Bronze Age through the Roman period. The city played a foundational role in the development of early Greek philosophy and science, serving as the home of the Milesian school with thinkers such as Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes.

Didyma was an ancient Greek sanctuary on the coast of Ionia in the domain of the famous city of Miletus. Apollo was the main deity of the sanctuary, and it included temples to both Apollo and his twin sister, Artemis; other deities were also honoured there. Didyma was known in antiquity for its famed oracle of Apollo, situated within the god's temple. The remains of this Hellenistic temple are among the best-preserved from classical antiquity. Other buildings from the sanctuary included a Greek theatre and the Hellenistic temple of Artemis.

4Temple of Apollo at Didyma

Located in Didim, Aydın, the Temple of Apollo is one of the most significant oracular centers of the ancient world and was built in the Ionic order. Construction began in the 8th century BC, and it is the third largest temple in the world after the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus and the Heraion in Samos. The temple is situated at the end of the Sacred Way between Miletus and Didyma, and is within walking distance of Didyma (55 m) and the Sacred Way (220 m).

The Nymphaeum is a historic site located in Didim. It is a splendid fountain structure situated in the heart of the ancient city center of Miletus, between the Ionian Stoa and the Market Gate. It was originally built in the late 1st century CE and underwent an extension during the reign of Emperor Gordian III. Within walking distance of the Nymphaeum are Milet (336 m), İlyas Bey Camii (336 m), and Ionian stoa (49 m).

The Faustina Baths are a historic Roman bath complex located in Didim. They were built around the middle of the 2nd century AD in honor of Empress Faustina, the wife of Marcus Aurelius, and rebuilt in the 3rd century. This well-preserved complex offers significant insights into Roman bath culture and once featured cold and heated rooms adorned with sculptures. Situated north of the theater hill in the ancient city of Miletus, it is within walking distance of other historical sites such as Miletus (492 m), İlyas Bey Camii (204 m), and Nymphaeum (305 m).

8Bouleuterion in Miletus

The Buleuterion is a historic site in Didim, which served as the council house for the ancient city of Miletus. This Hellenistic structure, built between 175 and 163 BCE, featured an auditorium capable of seating 800 to 1,200 people. It was strategically positioned between the North and South Agoras of Miletus. The Buleuterion is within walking distance of other significant historical sites, including Milet (350 m), İlyas Bey Camii (281 m), and Nymphaeum (88 m).
9Ionic Stoa in Miletus

The Ionian Stoa is a historic structure located in the ancient city of Miletus in Didim. Situated on the eastern side of Miletus' North Agora, along the Sacred Way, it was built in the 1st century during the Roman period and modified under Emperor Trajan. This Ionian-style colonnade, approximately 100 meters long with around 35 columns originally, housed the city's shops. Today, four restored columns and a wall can be seen. It is within walking distance of Milet (307 m), İlyas Bey Camii (337 m), and Nymphaeum (49 m).
