About Sphinx Gate, Hattusa
The Sphinx Gate (Sfenksli Kapı) is a monumental historic site located in Hattusha, the capital of the Hittite Empire, in the Boğazkale district of Yozgat. Dating to the 14th or 13th century BC, this gate is a significant example of Hittite stonework, featuring sphinx figures with human heads, lion bodies, and eagle wings. It is part of the Yerkapı complex, situated at the highest point of Hattusha, and served as one of the grand entrances to the city. It is within walking distance of Hattuşaş (581 m), Kral Kapısı (609 m), and Aslanlı Kapı (717 m).
