About Sanctuary of Demeter (Pergamum)
The Temple of Demeter in Bergama is a historic structure situated on a rectangular terrace, dating back to the Hellenistic Period and re-arranged during the Roman Period. Dedicated to Demeter, the goddess of grain and fertility, it was built by Philetairos and his brother Eumenes for their mother Boa. The temple features a large main altar and four smaller altars in front of it. Located just west of the theater stage building, the temple is within walking distance of the Acropolis Cable Car - Upper Station stop (451 m). The Great Altar (Altar of Pergamon) is 362 meters away, and the Pergamon Library is 537 meters away.
