About Hydreion

Hydreion is a historic fountain located in Selçuk, Aydın, beyond the Gate of Hercules at the north end of Domitian Square. It was constructed around 200 AD by T. Flavius Meander and served both decorative and practical purposes during the Roman period, such as keeping Curetes Street clean. The fountain featured two water basins within a semi-circular niche and had a three-arched facade supported by four Corinthian columns. It is within walking distance of Ephesus (581 m), the Celsus Library (288 m), and the Temple of Hadrian (173 m).
